Our Temporary Adult Med Professor

Professor Wu wanted us to feel as much 'at home' in Adult Med as possible by borrowing one of Professor Nielsen-Brown's vests:

Sycamore Vision Screening

On November 18th, Jheralyn, Omayra, Phuong, Ashley, and Sam volunteered their time at Sycamore Elementary School by providing vision screening to K-5 students.  Professor McNamara joined in on the fun.  The school nurse graciously thanked all WesternU PA Students for the invaluable assistance.

Final score: 31-6
Warfarin Wins!

Game 2
Warfarin vs. Sciatica (DO 2014)
Final score: 18-21
Good game.

You girls exceeded our expectations. No words can describe how awesome you did and how proud of you we are. Not only did you play both offense and defense, you girls left EVERYTHING on the field! On top of the crazy week of exams and stress, you went out there and played like champs! Seriously... we’re just so proud of all of you.

Speaking on behalf of the coaches and all the fans who came out and cheered our hearts out for you, we would go into war with all of you... any day.

Here is an AWESOME video of the action! Make sure to watch- it's worth it, you girls are amazing!

CAPA Conference Weekend!

Here are a few good memories :)

Our wonderful professors with a few students enjoying all the CAPA-ness!

Jen, Casey, Raelyn, Lauren and Bev hanging out side the hotel at the bonfire pit after a long day of conferences and workshops and being awesome student ambassadors!

Raelyn and Lauren took some pics when they were in the suture workshop learning on pigs feet. They said it was a lot of fun (even though it smelled) but they learned how to suture and staple wounds!

Raelyn, Alexandra and Lauren at the student challenge bowl cheering for Western's second year students competing. The challenge bowl was a blast...a few schools had cheerleading teams where they actually had routines with music and pretty legit cheers. Unfortunately we didn't win the challenge bowl, but we should start preparing for next year...we need 2-3 students to represent our class as second year students! Who's interested?? Only 10 months left to prepare :)

CAPA 2010 Student Ambassadors

After a long weekend of CMEs and scanning I.D. badges the CAPA Student Ambassadors got a little crazy and took their frustrations out on the supplies truck. WesternU was well represented with 4 student ambassadors and Professor Guizado leading the troops. Next year we need to represent at the student challenge bowl…I nominate Reid and Megan and whoever can get A’s on Adult Med tests. USC is going down!

PHOP Volunteering

On Sept 7, 2010, Alex Le, Samuel Ramirez, and Blossom Aguirre volunteered to serve dinner to the homeless in collaboration with the Pomona Homeless Outreach Program (PHOP).  While stepping away from the books, they were able to meet students from other programs at WesternU and develop rapport with community members.

WesternU's Halloween Costume Contest!

I'm pretty sure this is the most creative bunch of students at WesternU, and that this is the best costume ever!

How we didn't win I will never understand.... nonetheless, it turned out AMAZING!

PA Day!

October 6th-12th was designated as National Physician Assistant Week to commemorate the anniversary of the first graduating PA class in 1967. So to celebrate, Wednesday was WesternU's PA DAY! We all wore our fabulous class shirts...

We originally planned a BBQ to be held outside in the nice California weather! To our dismay, it was freeeeezing and raining. Bad combination. None of the other students were outside to even know we had a BBQ set up and great, yummy food and treats outside- therefore it was more PA [only] day because I'm pretty sure we were the only ones buying lunch. Fun for us, sucky for our attempted fundraiser.

Freezing and raining.

And all 97 of us brought baked goods to sell as a fundraising activity which meant WAY too many treats to ever be sold or eaten.
And of course 3 GUYS decided to man the bake sale table.

Pretty good turn out!

WARNING: These videos show the destructive nature of PA school and of sitting in the same classroom 7 hours a day, 5 days a week, with the same 97 people and those effects on mental health. Is PA school bad for your health and social life? The answer is yes.
And P.S. this was the most hilarious, awesome thing ever. We are so deprived.

Since Professor Wu's iPhone wasn't able to pick up our 'quick movements' she instructed us to do a slow-mo version.
